Colleagues,

Following the seemingly never-ending election season in 2018, Arizona and the nation seem focused on narrowing the divides highlighted on social media and television. In the spirit of this refocusing, we are excited to bring to you another issue of The Arizona Pulse. This issue’s theme is based around Community, and we have featured articles highlighting the ways Arizona physicians are giving back to the local community. Wide and diverse, the Arizona community of physicians, healthcare providers, and their affiliates’ efforts range from The University of Arizona’s Commitment to Underserved People, to Arizona State University’s Maryvale One Square Mile Initiative. We also look at the Arizona Department of Health Services’ program partnership with Native Health and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona’s investments in Arizona with their Mobilize AZ initiative. Our state is home to multiple medical schools, with a new one opening soon in Central Phoenix, and we hear about how A.T. Still University, Midwestern University, and Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine give back to the great state of Arizona.

We also present the results for the 2018 general election, and ArMA’s take on their impact on the state and our profession. We hope that it provides valuable insight into how these elections impact Arizona medicine as we reconnect with our families, friends, and continue to focus on our patients.

Sincerely,

Christopher Bailey
